= Overview =
Eden Tutors have selected a team of highly experienced tutors to provide pupils with access to the highest quality education through a personalised education programme. Our one-to-one sessions offer bespoke support through intense individual assistance. Furthermore, there is an enormous amount of freedom to tailor the curriculum around your child. One-to-one sessions allow tutors to hone in on your child’s learning style and plan sessions personalised to them, developing their intrinsic love for learning so they enjoy and remember every lesson!
One-to-one tuition allows students to achieve top academic grades, however we believe that there is so much more to learning than just teaching for exams. We aim to fuel your child’s appetite for knowledge, develop their curiosity and inspire them to learn with an open and inquiring mind. The second benefit to private tuition is creative learning. Our tutors deliver lessons that have real world application through purposeful, ‘context based’ learning. This might mean delivering lessons on photosynthesis by going outside, or by teaching maths by using money to buy and sell.
By applying learning within ‘real world’ contexts, ensures that children obtain important life skills to develop their cultural capital throughout their learning journey. The third main benefit of private tuition is flexibility. We work to fit in with your schedule and sessions can take place either online, or in person, based upon your requirements. This allows children to succeed at school and peruse extra-curricular activities, whilst receiving the benefits of private tuition. Eden Tutors are challenging the concept of private tuition and redefining the purpose of education.
= Early Years =
We support children as young as three years old. Our specialist ‘younger years tutors’ offer expert guidance to young students to inspire early learning. Whether it be studying basic skills, through to reading, phonics, handwriting or literacy, the secret at this stage of learning is to keep the student absorbed and stimulated. Having fun with education is an important aspect of younger years learning and our tutors will regularly include English sessions around such characters as ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’, or mathematics lessons stimulated by the writings of Roald Dahl.
Tutors also understand the differing ways that younger learners absorb knowledge. From visual, auditory or kinaesthetic, your tutor will adapt an individual approach to the tutoring sessions and prepare the most appropriate lesson plans. All this whilst keeping your child stimulated and engaged in a lively and entertaining session, which will become the foundation and template for future early years learning.
= Key Stage One and Two =
Tuition for children in Key Stage one and two may be required for children who need additional support to catch up with the curriculum, pass their Phonics Screening Check, SAT’s, or achieve entry into their secondary school of choice. We have many gifted and talented children that thrive from the challenge of having a private tutor to enhance their knowledge and develop their critical thinking skills. Furthermore, our academic subjects meet the aims of the National Curriculum.
Competition for entry into the most eminent prep and junior schools is now at its peak with entrance examinations for 7+ and 8+ being a critical juncture towards a child’s academic progress. Strengthening a student’s understanding of the English and mathematics syllabus under the guidance of an experienced tutor could make all the difference to the success of these examinations. At Eden Tutors we are fortunate to have a team of tutors already versed and experienced in the primary teaching of children and the preparations needed for entrance exam success!
= Common Entrance Exams and Pre-Tests =
With entrance exams in year six now so fiercely competitive, whether these be the ISEB Common Pre-Test, individual entrance exams to Senior Independent Schools, or 11+ exams to Grammar Schools, this year could, undoubtedly, amount to one of the most stressful and critical in a young students life. The Eden Tutors philosophy cites responsible preparation as the route to entrance exam success.
To be aware and practised in all of the differing verbal and non-verbal questions that might arise in the tests is of unquestionable importance. But for this to be beneficial, there must be fun in education! We believe that keeping sessions succinct and interesting will help your child to absorb knowledge, whilst keeping a balance with leisure and school time. Past exam papers can be interspersed with puzzles and quizzes and debates that involve reasoning and logic. This will support your child to feel fresh, properly prepared and in a state of readiness for entrance exam success!
= Senior School and GCSE Preparation =
During the critical years spanning from 13 to 16, students face a period of heightened and more frequent examinations than any other stage in their educational journey. It is crucial that during this phase, students are thoroughly prepared and possess the resilience to handle the associated pressures.
Whether your child is gearing up for 13+ examinations or preparing for their GCSEs, accelerated learning is essential, and students need the right skills to thrive when it comes to the actual exam day. Our online tutors are not only inspiring educators but also bring with them a wealth of experience in guiding students through demanding examination periods, preparing them for admission tests and nurturing their long-term aspirations.
= Who Might Benefit From Private Tuition? =
Since the global pandemic, a number of children have fallen behind, significantly, with their learning. This has caused a steep decline in the proportion of children who are reading, writing and understanding maths to the expected levels. Our tutors are skilled primary school teachers who are experienced in applying strategies to support a child to excel academically. We have successfully supported children who have been absent from school due to an illness or family isolation, which together with lockdown has caused the child to be even further behind in their learning journey. It may be that your child has low engagement in the classroom, or struggles to understand key concepts and requires additional support to catch up and consolidate their understanding. With fewer distractions in a home setting, private one-to-one tuition will enhance a learner’s concentration and performance. Short, direct and intensive group sessions can also have a profound impact on building a child’s confidence. Regular lessons with a tutor will stimulate a disorganised child to focus on their learning and build their momentum, whereby they will feel less anxious and develop a sense of responsibility in readiness for their next session. As they recognise their progression, the learner will feel a sense of accomplishment and more satisfaction in learning.
Throughout Key Stage one and two, children may require additional support to ensure they have the best possible chance of passing their examinations. It may be that your child has fallen behind on a particular topic, or requires support to refresh their knowledge on key concepts. Owing to large class sizes, time and resources, a school teacher can only give an individual limited attention in order to meet the needs of the entire teaching group. At Eden Tutors, our dedicated tutors focus on the specific subject that your child is struggling with. Sessions can be arranged on a one-to-one or small group basis.
Many of our students live overseas, or have moved to the United Kingdom and learn English at a young age. Eden Tutors offers one-to-one private sessions for overseas learners, ensuring their sessions are personalised and tailored to meet the appropriate requirements at each stage of their learning journey.
We recognise the implications of the pandemic and lockdown restrictions upon a child’s mental health. In many cases, this has caused the child’s existing condition to become exacerbated. We understand that a change in a young child’s routine can be particularly challenging, impacting their overall wellbeing. Our nurture coach provides support to children who have struggled to understand the changes going on around them and applies strategies to help children cope with their transition back into school and society.
Our tutors provide support to pupils to meet greater depth standards and excel in a particular subject. We ensure provision of academic stretch and challenge, which can enthuse and invigorate learning, thus enhancing other areas of a child’s school life. One-to-one tuition also provides the learner with the opportunity to ask questions when they are unsure of a concept and challenges the learner to think broadly about issues to develop problem solving skills within their subjects.
