With half term here, you may be considering some ways to fill the week with fun-packed and educational activities for your child. Finding engaging activities and introducing new experiences could provide a chance to unwind and discover local hidden gems! At Eden Tutors, we value a healthy balance between work and play, with a view to encouraging our learners to explore their creativity, whilst learning new concepts. Having researched some of our local favourite events, we have compiled a half term bucket list for you to enjoy with your child:
1. Dr Choc’s Windsor Chocolate Factory, Windsor
Do you enjoy sweet treats? Located opposite Windsor Castle, Dr Choc’s Windsor Factory are offering half term workshops for creating your favourite chocolatey delights. Your child will learn how to make their own spooky Halloween chocolate bars using a mixture of sweet ingredients. As a Halloween treat, your child will be able to include sugar pumpkins, bats and spooky sprinkles when making their chocolate dessert. Your child can even make their own spooky Halloween lollipop!
2. A family day out with EML Charters, Hamble 25th October – 31st October 2021
Perhaps you are thinking about taking a break this half term and relaxing by the coast? EML Charters offer the very best of skippered chartered cruising and bareboat charter. Based at Hamble Point Marina, close to Southampton, EML charters offer two magnificent vessels, a Sunseeker Predator and a new Axopar 28 Cabin. Spending a day out with the family would be an exciting and luxurious way to spend your half term. 3. Spooky Halloween Trail, Finchampstead, 28th October – 1st November 2021
Why not take part in a Spooky Halloween Trail? How many pumpkins can you spot? This trail is set up and organised by Nine Mile Ride Primary School and guarantees heaps of fun over your half term break. If you’re keen to keep your child’s maths skills up-to-date, this is also a great opportunity to encourage your child to use their skills to count how many different spooky, Halloween items they can find!
4. St Michael’s School PTA Scarecrow Trail, Sunninghill, 26th October – 1st November 2021
Another spooktacular Halloween trail! When you sign up, your child will get the opportunity to search for as many scarecrows as possible. It’s an amazing way to have fun during the half term and an opportunity to involve the whole family! As the event is organised and run by St Michael’s C of E school, the proceeds will go towards raising money for the school resources. As well as hunting for scarecrows, there is also a hidden message to work out along the way and a chance to win a £150 toy bundle!
5. Windsor Vegan Market, Windsor Yards, 23rd October 2021
The Windsor Vegan market is an opportunity to broaden your child’s palette of delicious vegan food. The event features up to 20 stalls, offering a variety of vegan healthy nibbles, artisanal treats, sweet bakes alongside ethical clothing, arts and crafts and much more! What better way to introduce new and exciting food types than trying the very best of vegan cuisine. The Windsor Vegan market takes place on 23rd October and will run from 10.30am to 4pm.
6. Brick or Treat, Legoland Windsor, 14th – 31st October 2021
Calling all little monsters and their monster families! Lord Vampyre invites you to Brick or Treat at Legoland Windsor for the most spooktacular time of the year! Perfect for young children, Legoland is being transformed into a pumpkin-filled wonderland for the frightfully fun event. There will be lots of exciting activities to choose from, including a Haunted House Monster Party Ride, Lord Vampyre’s Creepy Crypt Trail, Monster Rockers fang-tastic Pumpkin Trail, costume competitions and much more, including rides, live shows and attractions. Tickets start at £42.00. Don’t miss out on the frightful fun this half term!
7. Hallo’welly’ ween, Wellington Country Park, 23rd – 31st October 2021
Do you love crafts, shows, tractor rides and pumpkin picking? Wellington Country Park’s annual Halloween event is not to be missed! Set across 350 acres parklands, the attraction has a fantastic line up for all the family, including spooky shows, such as the ‘Witches of Spooky Willow’, a Halloween disco and a pop up play village. The event also offers hands-on-science activities, a mud kitchen, sensory play trays and the chance to make gooey slime. You might even get up close to a host of wonderful creepy crawlies with the ZooLab Animal Encounters Team. Are you brave enough to touch a Tarantula or meet a Hissing Cockroach?
8. Afternoon Tea and Trail, Cantley House, Wokingham, 26th – 28th October 2021
Set amongst acres of scenic Berkshire countryside, Cantley House is an increasingly popular venue for one of the most English of traditions – afternoon tea. This Halloween, they are putting an eerie twist on their traditional afternoon tea, where you can feast on a Halloween themed afternoon tea in their spooky 17th century converted barn followed by a Halloween trail for all of the family. What better way to enjoy Halloween in style?
9. Bonfire and Fireworks (Harry Potter Theme), King George’s Field, Twyford, 30th October 2021
A spectacular evening with a twist! Is your child a Harry Potter fan? A local community group has organised a night to remember with a fantastic display of fireworks, centred around the theme of Harry Potter. What a wonderful way to round up a week’s activities by attending the event in King George’s Field, Twyford for the dramatic display. Get into the spirit of Halloween and enjoy the nights festivities!
10. Spooktacular Firework Extravaganza, Liquid Leisure, Datchet, 30th October 2021
Another epic way to finish the half term! The firework display takes place on 30th October, finishing the half term with a bang! When your child returns to school after the half term, there will be plenty to talk about after enjoying fabulous firework event. If your child sometimes needs some inspiration with their writing, watching and writing about this Spooktacular Firework Extravaganza is likely to enliven their joy for the written language!
